Baked Pistachio cake with Honey buttercream

I baked this just because I want to try out the recipe and we have someone over for the weekend. It was pretty expensive and a lot of work. For me, shelling the pistachios and grinding them to powder is a bit too much work ;p

Well anyway, I iced the cake, tied a ribbon around it..and attached my 1st Anemone and voila!

Halloween birthday cake and...

... my first cake disaster!!! I have not been blogging for a while - Just been busy with drs, housework (yucks) and party-planning for the holidays! I did my 1st Halloween cake, which was also a birthday cake. My dr's only requirement was "scary" and so I baked some witch fingers for a test-run...like it a lot and voila - here is my halloween birthday cake.
Everything else was made of fondant and the spider webs were piped with royal icing.

And my first cake disaster pic...sigh. It was supposed to be a 2 tiers cake decorated with calla lilies. It wasn't for anyone....just for my cake class but did want to bring it to my friend's Halloween party that night. Oh well, learnt something new from this disaster...but I did managed to salvage the top!

Thankgiving Day birthday cake

I almost forgot about this cake. It was done together on the Thanksgiving weekend and my favourite cake so far. It was for someone who loves pink, dogs and shopping. It is a very rich chocolate cake with chocolate ganache.

Witch fingers

I baked these because I want to see how it will turn out and the main purpose is to use these fingers for my Halloween Birthday cake, which will be in 2 weeks time. I kinda have an idea on how I want to incorporate them onto the cake..but I just have to confirm on other decor that I can use for the cake before I start my decor-making. I will probably make them green and thinner..
 ;)

Thanksgiving Cakes

These are the cakes I have done for the Thanksgiving weekend. I was busy with appts and what not, thus the late posting. Enjoy!!

Cakelets

These are little cakes - size of a saucer. They were made for our family dr and a close friend in town. They love it!

Hello Kitty Birthday cake

My MIL wanted a Hello Kitty (HK) cake for her birthday. I wanted something that is original in design, not the usual HK head cake..so I thought what about HK in a garden, since my MIL loves gardening. And voila, here you go...

And the inside of the cake looks like this ...Vanilla with lemon curd and covered with buttercream
Thanks for looking ;)

Indonesian layer cake

This cake is also known as Dutch layer cake due to Indonesia used to be colonized by them. But I have yet to find the Dutch recipe for comparison.

This cake involves 25 egg yolks and hours of grilling, layer by layer. The first layer was baked and subsequently the rest were grilled. So if you do not have 2-3 hours to spare, and lotsa patience sitting by the oven, then this is not the cake to bake. Now I know why they charge so much for this cake.My husband asked what is with the beeping every few minutes ;)

But if you do bake it, you will know the time you spent in the kitchen is well worth it. It is sooo good..my mum-in-law who is part Irish/Scottish said she never had anything like this before. We were both gobbling it down in front of the tv.

If you want to try to bake it yourself, the recipe can be found here

Purse cake

I have some leftover fondant and thought I will try my hand on a purse cake. Purse and shoes cake are like the craze now and so why not. It was a bit too dark for me to place it at the usual spot for photography....and I was rushing to start cooking for dinner and so, I touched up the background a little to hide the messy background.
This simple purse cake serves 4-5 persons. Cake is covered with buttercream and later with fondant. Decorations are fondant and edible pearls.

Peanut butter

If you are a peanut butter lover, you gonna love this cake. My hubby wanted something with peanut butter frosting ... I don't think I blog on it before. Instead of making chocolate cake to go with the frosting, I thought why not do something different this time...and Voila! Peanut butter cupcakes with the leftover ganache from Jessica's cupcakes. So if you like Timmy's peanut butter cookies, you will definitely love this. And noooo, the photo will not do justice for the cupcakes - hrmmm, maybe I should hire a professional!

Summer Fun

done this minis for my friend

Have to say summer is like the worst time to play with fondant. Some of the flowers that I made prior just kinda went gooey - yeah gooey! But the weather was pretty nice last week and thus, I managed to make some fondant decos. Tried out a new rose fondant - it was soo easy and yet so much prettier. Just love it!

Cupcakes for Whispering Hearts Horse Rescue

They were done for a fundraising event at Hagersville. I was told by Jan, a man came and bought all of them for his World Cup party - well I hope he supported Spain! They were chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with chocolate glaze and vanilla buttercream for the grass. Oh yeah, with a hint of peppermint in the icing!

Basketweave cake

3 layers of vanilla cake with strawberry puree. Decorated with Italian Buttercream and the flowers are made of Royal Icing. Flowers:- roses, apple blossoms, primroses

Sheep

saw these cupcakes on a website and I knew I must give it a try.
Well I wasn't feeling well on that day, so I just put my sketch book at the back and everything on the cupcake tray and snap, snap.

Canada Day

Vanilla cupcakes with fondant flags and royal icing maple. I'm not sure whether I will want to work with Royal Icing anymore, cos they break easily. Maybe I just have to find another recipe?

School Theme cupcakes

I had fun making these cupcakes - they were for my mum in law's friend Susan. Vanilla cupcakes with Italian Buttercream and Chocolate Cupcakes with American Buttercream. They were decorated with fondant books, blackboard, rulers, pencils and apples.

I did a different recipe this time for the vanilla cupcakes. Is from a famous bakery in NYC. I was a bit hesitant at first cos I heard it didn't turn out for some people, but it did for me. I love the taste - is just so vanilla. No wonder people line-up for them...well at the bakery anyway.

Butterfly cupcakes

Well I have been wanting to try my hand on butterflies with "hole" in it - okay, let's call it the see-through butterflies ..and since I have some Royal icing left from my cake class, I thought I will try it. Lesson learnt - always use new batch of royal icing for this or it will break when you peel it off the wax paper ;)...But I managed to save a few.

imagine the fun of biting into this little colourful cupcake

Boston Cream Pie Cake

Boston Cream Pie is one of my favourite cake - 2 layers cake with a rich creamy vanilla custard, covered by chocolate. The cake is usually decorated with icing sugar but this time, I thought I will decorate it with flowers done with quilling technique. The flowers are made of fondant so they are all edible!
